Olde Carlsbad Realty - Once a sleepy beach town, Carlsbad is now home to over 100,000 residents (106,804 as of 2010). Carlsbad is located right on the Pacific Ocean, about 88 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles on Interstate 5 and about 35 miles north of Downtown San Diego. Carlsbad has a long and rich history; for centuries it was home to the indigenous Diegueno and Luiseno Indians that lived along the shoreline of the lagoons. Then came the Spaniards and the rest as they say “is history!”
Carlsbad has over 7 miles of beaches with great surfing, surf fishing (be sure to check out my fishing videos on my youtube channel), swimming and of course an unlimited supply of sandcastle building material! It is also a pretty common site to see dolphins swimming just offshore beyond the waves, feeding and playing. Bring your sunscreen and binoculars!
Downtown Carlsbad is an adorable “village” full of boutiques and antiques, and fantastic sit-down dining. If you’re on the move, grab a taco, burrito, burger or pizza from the counter of one of the many restaurants downtown and head to the beach or one of the local parks. Not too far from the old downtown are the famed outlet shops. Just to the north of Carlsbad is Oceanside where you might take an hour or so to visit the Surf Museum, with lots of cool old photos and a great place to meet other surfers from all over the world! The Carlsbad Farmer’s Market is not to be missed, held every Wednesday from 1pm to 5pm and every Saturday from 1pm to 5pm. It’s held rain or shine on Roosevelt Street, between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue.
