Marina District, San Diego Houses for Sale
The Marina District is downtown San Diego's ideal location for those seeking an urban area that offers both a vibrant lifestyle and a relaxing oasis. Bordered by the breathtaking San Diego Bay and Harbor, the San Diego Convention Center and the renowned Gaslamp Quarter, the Marina District is the centerpiece of San Diego's revival in recent years and was proclaimed in 2007 as one of the top 5 neighborhood places to retire in the country by Money Magazine. There is, however, so much to see and do for everyone of all ages. Seaport Village (an open air collection of restaurants and specialty shops), the Museum of Contemporary Art, the new Childrens' Museum, the USS Midway Ship/ Museum, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Promenade and the North and South Embarcadero Marina Parks are all located in this 8-or-so block district. Fourth of July spectaculars with the San Diego Symphony and fireworks on the bay, as well as the annual Holiday Parade of Lights (think yachts on the bay decked out for the holidays) in December are just two of the visual stunning events to be seen in the Marina District.
Downtown San Diego is the hub of San Diego's legal, banking and government industries. The defense and tourism industries, of course, continue to fuel the local economy. Exciting opportunities for business growth exist with the more than one million square feet of new or planned commercial space in the downtown area alone.
New urban projects are being developed every day by the Center City Development Corporation and the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan. The recently completed Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge now links the waterfront to the Gaslamp District and East Village. The "Downtown Quiet Zone" , scheduled for completion by Spring, 2012, will help to eliminate train noises affecting nearby hotels and highrises. With its natural beauty and year-round Mediterranean-like climate, it's not surprising that despite its recent population growth, plans for downtown San Diego include adding more than 50 acres of open space or parks to its existing 75 acres, meaning that every resident will live within a few minute walk to public open space.
If the Marina District sounds like the perfect spot to live, just wait- it keeps getting better! Near-future plans include two new parks within the neighborhood, including a waterpark and Ruocco Park to be added on the bay, a multi-million dollar expansion of the existing San Diego Convention Center that will make it the largest in the west and new world-class restaurants will make San Diego the world-class city it should be. Include near-perfect weather year round and it's the ideal spot to visit, make a second home, or live permanently.
